Third Graders Study Wind Turbines

Last Friday, all third graders studied about wind turbines. Mr. Hollister and Ms. Epperly showed the students models of wind turbines, and talked about what turbines are used for and why we could benefit from one. They also made predictions about what type of turbine would produce more power: 6 blades vs. 3 blades, short vs. long, and curved vs. rectangular. They also enjoyed seeing how much weight could be lifted by the turbine. Mrs. McConnell read the story, When the Wind Blows to the students. After that, they were put into groups to design a wind turbine of their own on paper. A turbine made out of school supplies, the Statue of Liberty, and gold were just a few. They also read articles on the Erie web site about the wind turbine.
